Letters written chiefly to Jackson's brother-in-law, Charles Brown of Brown & Ellis, merchants of Boston, Mass., relating to Jackson's student days in Europe, technical, topographical, and geological descriptions, the European cholera epidemic (1831), and Jackson's surgical anesthesia claims (1859) as opposed to those of William T. G. Morton. Other correspondents include his sister, Lydia (Jackson) Emerson.
